# Applications

{% hint style="warning" %}
You must have the Manage Applications permission to edit applications. For supervisors viewing applications, you can set that via the `Who can Appy` and `Who can Review` tab.

### Welcome to the Applications section of your community.

Applications are an important part of any community’s onboarding process. They allow staff teams to review new members, department transfers, promotions, specialist roles, subdivisions, and any other position that requires approval before access is granted. BurkhardtCAD provides a flexible application system designed to help communities manage this process in a clean, organized, and professional way.

With BurkhardtCAD, communities are not limited to a basic application form. Each application can be built and customized to fit the exact needs of the community. Staff members can create application forms for different departments, ranks, teams, or internal positions, while controlling who is allowed to apply and who is allowed to review the submitted responses.

The application builder allows communities to create custom questions and structure them in the way that works best for their process. Questions can be added, edited, reordered, and configured depending on the type of information the community needs from the applicant. This gives staff teams full control over how detailed or simple each application should be.

BurkhardtCAD currently supports multiple question types, including Short Answer, Long Essay, Dropdown Selection, and Checkboxes. Short Answer fields are useful for simple responses, such as names, callsigns, availability, or quick details. Long Essay fields are designed for more detailed answers, such as experience, reasoning, scenario responses, or explanations. Dropdown Selection fields allow applicants to choose from a set list of options, helping keep answers consistent. Checkbox fields are useful when applicants need to select multiple options from a list.

Each question can also be configured with additional requirements. Communities can choose whether a question must be answered before the application can be submitted. For written responses, staff can set minimum and maximum character limits to help make sure applicants provide enough detail without making responses unnecessarily long. This gives communities better control over the quality and structure of submitted applications.

BurkhardtCAD also includes tools to help staff review applications more effectively. The system can detect when a user copies and pastes content into a question field and make staff aware during the review process. This can help reviewers identify responses that may have been copied from another source or potentially generated using AI. While this does not automatically determine whether an answer is valid or invalid, it provides staff with additional information so they can make a better review decision.

Communities can also customize the appearance of their applications. BurkhardtCAD allows background images to be set for applications, giving each form a more polished and community-specific look. This helps applications feel more professional and can be used to match a department, recruitment campaign, or community branding.

The goal of the BurkhardtCAD application system is to make onboarding easier for both applicants and staff members. Applicants receive a clear and simple process for submitting their information, while staff teams get the tools they need to review, manage, and process applications efficiently. Whether your community uses applications for full whitelist access, department recruitment, leadership positions, or internal transfers, BurkhardtCAD gives you the flexibility to build the process around your community’s needs.
